Vocal Scale Exercises
These vocal scale exercises will help Improve your tone, take
tension off your voice and improve tonality there is a reason these exercises are so beneficial…
Your vocal chords will react ia specific way when you pronounce certain words. Here’s a clue. When you sing some
words have open voicing vowels, while some others have a closed sound to them. For instance the word “hat” has an
open and spacious ring to it, this is because of the vowel " A" Now, say the mom slowly do you see how this word
has a closed off resonance to it when compared to the word "hat"
You see, closed vowels are easier to sing. A great deal easier.
So we can use these closed vowels when we practice to train our voices to serve us correctly. For instance, if
you were to practice singing a high C with a word like “mom” a closed sound, before long you would be able
train your vocal chords to get used to making the coordination needed for a “high C”. In addition to, you
would train your voice to use the right amount of air pressure to hit this high C on "automatic pilot". With
continued practice and dispilne you eventually be able to sing this high C with ease, and then be able to
gradually broaden the vowel. Eventually you would be capable of singing any word on the high C.
So to sum up. A few words are more comfortable for your voice to sing than others. Whenever you practice these
“easier words”, and control your voice, at this point, you will be able to begin to sing out the more difficult
words. With patience, discipline and practice you'll be able to belt any word you like on any note.
