Do You Think You Are Really Tone Deaf?
Do You Think You Are Really Tone Deaf?

You probably must have heard of somebody who claims to be
tone deaf in order to defend his or her below average lack of
singing prowess. This is also an excuse
used by other people as a way of avoiding the pressure of
singing in front of an audience.
What exactly is tone deafness? Tone deaf is a term usually
applied to anyone who has a difficulty in discriminating
between notes in the same way as a person, who is color blind,
often fails to value visual arts done in various colors.
Similarly, a tone deaf person can't appreciate sounds or
music, as a whole, since he can't distinguish the differences
in the pitches of the notes in a musical composition. As a
consequence of such impairment, a person who is tone deaf is
unable to produce a similar sound or mimic a certain tune that
he hears.
Studies have been done to determine the reasons why a person
becomes tone deaf. It is a fact that the ability to discern
sounds is inherent in any normal and healthy human being.
However, the motivation and training that you receive in
properly using your sense of hearing while you grow older is
equally important. It was concluded that in most cases tone
deafness is more a lack of training rather than the inborn
hearing inadequacy of a person.
According to the experts in this field of study, no
able-bodied individual is entirely tone-deaf unless it is a
result of an accident leading to hearing impairment.
Previous research show that tone deafness is the
repercussion of lack of self-confidence of a person and not a
problem of the ears.
Generally, as a child, you are certainly not being groomed
by your parents to become a singer. Thus, the encouragement
that you get in enhancing this skill isn't really great for you
to be motivated to try and perfect your singing ability. This
absence of support from the people around you together with any
experience wherein you were criticized in your attempt to carry
a tune would often lead you to believe that you are indeed tone
deaf.
Through continuous training, you can get over your
psychological fear of being tone deaf. Probably due to an
embarrassing experience, your vocal cords constrict when you
sing. You need to relax in order to free the constriction in
your vocal cords.
Confidence in yourself as well as in your abilities is very
important if you want to overcome your tone deafness.
